I’ve just returned from the May Design Series 2015 and had a lovely afternoon meeting old faces and new peeps and inspiring and aspiring designers.
First up was a visit to Houzz, I promised I’d pop by and they gave me some hints and tips on improving my presence on the tinterweb.
Next stop, some aspiring designers. I was intrigued to find the New Design Britain stand and there were some great new designers exhibiting there. Ones that caught my eye, mainly as they related to some of my current projects are:
Samuel Bellamy and these Moroccan inspired lights. They can be as bespoke as you like, from different flexes, to contrasting rivets. Sam has just finished university – so get your orders in quick before he gets inundated.
I also liked some of the furniture ranges, and take it from me, there’s only a snippet of information here – if you’re in the trade, then you must go and see….
There’s the Alwyn chair by James Harrison. I could see this fitting into most modern interiors and if you went for the Abigail Aherne dark inky walls then this chair would add an element of POP to those dark backdrops. Perfect.
I loved this Mammoth Chair by Amy Sommerville, which reminds her of her New Zealand roots. I think once I’ve parked my bum in this – it’s not going to shift for a good while. Just a thought though – if you’re allergic to sheep – would you need a tissue close at hand?
More lights and furniture items that caught my interest…..
Also along the way are a number of interesting design seminars. I went to the Abigail Aherne one on creating Inspiring Retail Spaces. I have been toying with the idea of getting a shop for a long time. I really do want one, but I’m not sure where to start – until I listened to Abigal.
Abigail was very animated, and I took a couple of pics of her – but I’m not sure she would have thanked me for posting them – so this is the best one I’ve got.
Anyway – don’t take my word for it, pop along yourself and take a peek. It’s full of design ideas.
